You may battle temptation, fear, and doubt. Your family life may be a wreck. Your work life may be full of missed expectations. You might be overwhelmed by a world that seems to be spiraling into chaos. But can you still rest securely in this truth: the Lord is faithful.
He is faithful to his good nature. He is faithful to his promises. He is faithful to his work of salvation. And through the work of Christ, he is faithful to you. Our God “will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:8-9).
And so, we can be confident in God’s work in our lives and our world. We can pray, live, and serve with a steadfast hope. Find strength in 2 Thessalonians 3:1-5, and the assurance that comes when we rest in the faithfulness of God.
“Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith.”
We pray that the Word of God would go out to our world. We pray that the Gospel of God would not be slow to take root in people’s hearts, but that it would speed ahead and be honored. It has happened before and it will happen again. We are assured that we will be delivered from the plotting of sinful, wicked men. To be sure, not all have faith – many reject Christ – but we are confident in this:
“But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things that we command.”
The Lord is faithful! God is at work in his people and his world, and he will accomplish his purpose. He will strengthen you in his love and grace. He will guard you from the harmful plot of the evil one. And so you can have confidence about God’s work in your life, and the lives of other Christians. Son or daughter of God, by his grace you are doing and will continue to fulfill his commands. Rest in God’s faithfulness, rely on God’s Spirit, and let him direct you.
“May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.”
May your heart be directed to the love of God that surpasses knowledge. Gain comfort, direction, and fuel from God’s love for you. And may your heart be directed to the steadfastness of Christ, the perseverance of our Savior. Just as Jesus relied on his Heavenly Father, just as he stood firm amidst hardship, we too can find endurance in the faithfulness of God.
The Lord is faithful.
